Watch mind-blowing Barnacle Geese footage and soon we may be asking where have all the ducks gone...

We all know nature is harsh and some animals and birds have to really fight to survive. However, I’ve  never seen anything like this! This incredible video footage by National Geographic about Barnacle Geese chicks is worth watching. This is from the new tv series called “Hostile Planet.”

Also we all know climate change is affecting our planet but sometimes we take for granted how many ducks are around. For instance I was just at the herring spawn at Lily Point Marine Park in Point Roberts where I saw thousands of ducks and geese. See my eBird checklist HERE (to appreciate the numbers) what we fail to sometimes appreciate is how close we are to losing such sights.

Watch this 13 min short documentary HERE that NBC News made on the plight of ducks from Canada that winter in Arkansas and how it’s affecting everything including Duck Hunters.

  1. I remember watching Life Story on BBC Earth a few years ago, and the segment that focused on Barnacle Geese was both breathtaking and heartbreaking to watch. It was truly humbling to learn about the incredible odds that these birds face to ensure the survival of their chicks, who must then take the most dangerous steps of their young lives -- within the first few moments after they've hatched.

    Thanks for posting!

  4. It really is incredible footage. Sad about the survival rates of these geese though. I just wanted to cry when the first two didn't. Thanks for sharing.

    1. oh yes it is so hard to watch. nature is so brutal and i felt particularly awful for the one who survived the hard fall only to be taken by a raven :(. thanks for your comment sandy.

    1. ME too ... I have no sympathy for the duck hunters but sure spells to a much wider problem especially in Canada where studies have proven that climate change is accelerating here twice as fast than anywhere else in the world...
